School History

Sylvan Rodriguez Elementary School is an International Baccalaureate (IB) authorized public elementary serving pre‑kindergarten through fifth grade. Named in honor of beloved local broadcaster Sylvan Rodríguez,  an IB World School since May 2014, Rodriguez Elementary emphasizes global-minded learning in a dual-language and culturally rich environment. Under the leadership of Principal Parisa Behzadi—recognized in 2023 as HISD’s New Principal of the Year—the school proudly serves a highly multilingual and economically diverse student body, with strong support for English learners and Title I programs
